At a Glance:
Beautification and reliability have been at the forefront of a multi-year Capital Improvement Program which began with the Underground Utility program in 1968. Under this initiative, the city works to underground overhead electric systems including cable and telephone communication lines, on collector and arterial roads such as Hill Ave. The undergrounding process improves aesthetic quality of an area by removing unsightly utility poles and overhead wires.
This project includes the undergrounding of the electrical system on Hill Ave. from Villa St. to Topeka St. (North City Limit). JM Communications, Inc. was awarded the contract by City Council.
UPDATE: The undergrounding on Hill Avenue has been completed. The next phase of the project will proceed with the power pole conversions of the overhead lines to underground services for residents on Hill Ave. VCI Utility Services, Inc., dba Vantage Utility Services has been contracted to perform this service. The overhead to underground conversions will begin from Topeka St. and will proceed southbound on Hill Ave. to Villa St. Working one block at a time, the contractor will convert all overhead power lines to homes within each block on both sides of the street. Prior to work on each block, customers will receive two door-hanger notifications: One from PWP and one from the contractor, Vantage Utility Services.
Please note that traffic control will be provided and work outside of normal work hours may be required as the job progresses.
