    Seats Open/Term:  The terms for Pasadena Board of Education, Seats 1, 3, 5 and 7 will expire in May 2013 and these seats will be open for election in the upcoming March 5, 2013 primary municipal election. Following the approval of Measure A on June 5, 2012, the Pasadena Unified School District is now divided into seven geographic sub-district areas which includes Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre, and various unincorporated County pockets outside the City limits. Beginning with the upcoming 2013 Board of Education election, each member will be elected by the voters residing within a specific geographic sub-district within the School district area (See PUSD Geographic Sub-District Map) The above four offices are currently held by the following representatives: Seat 1 – Elizabeth Pomeroy, Seat 3 - Scott Phelps, Seat 5 - Ramon Miramontes and Seat 7 – Ed Honowitz. The terms for Board of Education Seats 1, 3, 5 and 7 are four years. There are no term limit provisions for serving on the Pasadena Board of Education.

    Nomination Period:  The nomination period will begin on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 7:30 a.m., (Monday, November 12 is Veterans Day Observed and City Hall is closed) and will close on Friday, December 7, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. The City Clerk will conduct two identical Candidate Workshops for candidates and/or their representatives on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 8:00 a.m., and Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 5:30 p.m., City Hall, 100 North Garfield Avenue, Room S228. Filing papers will be issued at the beginning of the sessions and detailed candidate information will be provided. All candidates and/or their representatives are encouraged to attend one of these workshops. Each session will last approximately one hour, and there will be an opportunity for questions. Nomination papers will also be issued during normal office hours (7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.) at the City Clerk’s Office, City Hall, 100 North Garfield Avenue, Room S228, Pasadena (appointments encouraged, 626-744-4124). City Hall is closed November 22 and 23 for the Thanksgiving holiday, and every other Friday (November 16 and November 30). The City Clerk’s Office will be open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the December 7 deadline to file nomination papers.

    Extended Nomination Period:  If the incumbent officer does not file nomination papers by the December 7, 2012 deadline, the period to nominate any qualified person other than the incumbent is extended to Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. for that incumbent’s seat.

    Nomination Petition/Qualifications/Filing Fee/Optional Candidate's Statement  

    • Nomination petition must be issued and filed within the above nomination period.
    • Nomination petition must be signed by not less than 25 qualified voters residing in the respective geographic school district area for which the candidate is running for office.
    • A candidate must be a registered voter and reside within the respective geographic School district area.
    • There is a $25.00 filing fee at the time nomination papers are filed.
    • There will be a $400 deposit if a candidate wishes to have a statement printed in the sample ballot pamphlet (optional). Actual charges will be determined upon publication and either a refund or an invoice for the difference will be sent to the candidate after the election.
