Human Services & Recreation Department

  • After School Playgrounds

The Human Services & Recreation Department is committed to offering first-rate services including reliable, supervised quality care for participants ages 5 to 14.  The program begins the second week of September and ends the last day of the school year.

The program is held at 12 school playground sites. A management Recreation Supervisor directly supervises the overall program and each site has a Site Coordinator who is directly responsible for the supervision of a specific site and Recreation Leaders who provide structured activities and general supervision.

The required activities offered at each site are: Homework time before Playtime, Nature, Drama, Arts & Crafts, Storytelling, Youth Sports, Cheerleading and High & Low Organized Games.

The program operates 15 hours a week following school, Monday through Friday for 40 weeks.

Seasonal youth sports competitions are held on Saturdays.

The after school program's peak attendance numbers close to 1,000 participants per day at all 12 sites.

The playground program is not a licensed child-care program and children freely choose between the activities of their choice. The children sign themselves in and out each day.
