WHOLE FOODS MARKET GIVING DAY JUNE 12, 2014 BENEFITS COMMUNITY GARDEN
PASADENA, Calif.—The public is encouraged to support the Villa-Park Community Garden by purchasing their groceries on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Whole Foods Market in East Pasadena, 3751 E. Foothill Blvd., near Rosemead Boulevard.
Whole Foods Market hosts its “Community Giving Day” June 12 as a way for the grocery store and its customers to give back to the community. The store will donate five percent of net sales at its East Pasadena store to benefit nutrition education at the Villa-Parke Community Garden, a project that began earlier this year to help low-income families with young children grow fresh fruits and vegetables for a more healthier lifestyle.
The Villa-Parke Community Garden at the Villa-Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa St., was created and initially funded through a public-private partnership including the City, Los Angeles County’s Little Green Fingers program supported by L.A. County’s First Five L.A., www.first5la.org and the Pasadena Community Gardens Conservancy, www.pasadenacgc.org, a private non-profit organization dedicated to improving family health in urban food desert neighborhoods through grants for community gardens and nutrition education.
