Pasadena Idol 2013 Open Auditions April 27

PASADENA, Calif.—Auditions for Pasadena Idol 2013, the City’s teen singing competition, will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Paseo Colorado’s Garfield Promenade, 280 East Colorado Blvd.

Pasadena’s Human Services and Recreation Department will be coordinating the auditions for youth singers, ages 13 to 18 years old.  Interested participants should arrive before 12:00 p.m. to register for the auditions.

The event is designed for amateur performers to showcase their talents.  Participants must be between 13 to 18 years old, and either reside in Pasadena, attend public or private school in Pasadena, or be a past participant in a City recreation program.  Proof of residency is not required to audition but will be requested if the participant qualifies for entry into the final competition.  Auditions require that a performer must sing a cappella without instrumental accompaniment and performers may be asked to sing up to two songs.

From the open auditions on April 27, up to 40 talented youth will be selected to attend three workshops designed by event co-sponsors to help develop artist performing skills, vocal technique and to advise participants about different areas of the music industry.

At the end of these workshops, 10 youth will be picked to move into the final competition for the “Pasadena Idol 2013” title, also scheduled to be held at Paseo Colorado on Aug. 24, 2013.

Co-sponsors for this popular event include Paseo Colorado, LA Music Academy and local production companies Swartz Section, S Claz Productions, Mike Towns Sounds, Martyr Entertainment, Y.B.A.G. and Dena Magazine.

This free event was created as a “Youth Month” activity and has grown since its inception in 2007.

“Pasadena Idol is a wonderful event that highlights the talent and brilliance that our local youth have. This event has grown into a wonderful program that supports youth talent by providing teens with studio time, access to music production, and industry business skills,” said Christy Zamani, Day One Executive Director.

This is the third year Pasadena Idol is being held at Paseo Colorado’s Garfield Promenade.
