Celebrate Earth Day In Pasadena April 20!

JOIN THE EARTH DAY FUN IN PASADENA APRIL 20, 2013

PASADENA, Calif.—Celebrate a world of nature, art and live music at the 11th Annual Pasadena Earth and Arts Festival, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, at Memorial Park and the Armory Center for the Arts, 145 N. Raymond Ave.  This year’s master of ceremonies is noted author, performer and KPCC radio commentator Sandra Tsing Loh.

Pasadena’s annual Earth Day celebration is free and is one of the biggest Earth Day events in the Southern California.  The free family festival features activities, exhibits and entertainment for all ages.

FOR UPDATED INFO ON EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES GO TO: www.cityofpasadena.net/earthday or call (626) 744-4721.

Browse through a huge eco-marketplace where local businesses and non-profit groups promote a green living lifestyle, energy and water efficiency, composting, organic foods, green building design, alternative transportation and renewable energy technology.

City staff also will be on hand to answer your questions about waste reduction, recycling, water and energy conservation, and our beautiful parks and nature preserves.

As part of sustainable and eco-friendly business practices, locally brewed beers will be available for sale inside the festival’s Sustainable Beer and Wine Garden, serving up exceptional local artisan lagers, ales and wine from Pasadena’s own Craftsman Brewing Company, Everson Royce and Eagle Rock Brewery.

In addition to providing free youth art workshops throughout the day, festival-goers will be able to create pop up collages, 3-D relief landscape paintings and hand puppets made of recycled materials thanks to our friends at the Armory Center for the Arts.

If you’re not within walking or bicycling distance, consider using public transportation to attend.  If you use the Metro Gold Line, just show your Metro pass at the City’s Department of Transportation booth and you’ll get a free Earth Day reusable bag, while supplies last!  Or, join the 5.7-mile Earth and Arts Festival Bike Ride through town, led by C.I.C.L.E.  This fun bike ride is perfect for riders of all ages and skill levels, and the guided tour will showcase Pasadena’s safe bike routes and some of the City’s public art.

The pre-festival activities kick off at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 19, at the Levitt Pavilion in Memorial Park with a free screening of “Occupy Love,” a documentary about the human spirit and climate issues.

The annual festival is co-sponsored by the City of Pasadena, Armory Center for the Arts, Conscientious Projector and Metro.  For more information about the City of Pasadena, go to www.cityofpasadena.net.
