SUSPECT IDENTIFIED IN BOMB THREAT
PASADENA, CA – On October 25, 2012 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Pasadena Police Officers responded to the Pasadena Public Health Department building regarding a bomb threat. The caller said there was a bomb at the location. As a precaution, the Health Department was evacuated with the assistance of the Police Department.
PASADENA, CA – On October 25, 2012 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Pasadena Police Officers responded to the Pasadena Public Health Department Building, at 1845 North Fair Oaks Avenue, regarding a bomb threat.
While Pasadena Police Detectives were following up on leads in the area of 1700 block of N. Fair Oaks Avenue, they interviewed Jerardo Cortez. During the interview Mr. Cortez, male/Hispanic 25 years old, an Altadena resident, admitted to making the bomb threat calls against the Pasadena Public Health Department and the bomb threat the day before at Washington Middle School. Mr. Cortez stated he has been very angry concerning his personal problems.
Mr. Cortez was booked at the Pasadena City Jail for Criminal Threats with a bail of $50,000.

PASADENA POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN BOMB THREAT
Pasadena Police Officers assisted the Health Department evacuate personnel from the location. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department along with the South Pasadena Police Department’s K9 bomb units responded to assist with the explosives search.
At approximately 10:50 a.m., the Pasadena Police Department received another call from the same caller saying he was armed and in a location close to the Public Health Department.
At approximately 1:00 p.m., Pasadena Police Detectives following up on leads made contact with an individual in the area of 1700 block of Fair Oaks Avenue. The individual made incriminating statements that led detectives to focus their investigation on him. The subject admitted to making the Health Department bomb threat, however, his motivation remains unclear at this time.
Pasadena Police Detectives are attempting to determine if the subject arrested today is the same person who made the bomb threat concerning Washington Middle School yesterday. Detectives are withholding the subject's name until his identity can be verified.
The Pasadena Health Department was searched by police officers and bomb K9 units and it was determined safe and reopened at 2:00 p.m.
