Temporary Night Work at the Rose Bowl in January

Friends & Neighbors:

This is to wish each of you a Happy New Year and the hopes that it is a healthy, happy and prosperous year for each of you.

With the completion of another Rose Bowl Game, the Rose Bowl Renovation project is back in full construction mode. Most of you are aware of the scheduling challenges of phasing construction around football games and flea markets. For the most part, work has been on schedule to meet the contractual requirement of 1000 seats, finished and ready to occupy, in a new Press Box facility for the 2012 UCLA season. Unfortunately, there has been a snag which will require an unexpected, and short term allocation of additional labor.

That labor will be in the form of a second shift that is anticipated to work for approximately 3 weeks. The second shift will start at 6:00 pm each night and be completed no later than 2:00 am, and has been scheduled to perform work with minimal, if any noise impact, as described below. This process will start January 9th through the 24th. We will have a sound monitor on sight to measure compliance with the City’s noise ordinance, and who will be reporting to us every day on compliance. Please know that we have taken every available opportunity to minimize this activity and minimize the impact on our neighbors.

The work will consist of dismantling and removing the existing press box structure, contractors will be cutting the structure into sections and lifting it down to the ground. From the ground the large pieces will be pulled apart and separated for proper recycling and disposal. This process will be similar to how the scoreboard was dismantled, which did not result in any complaints concerning noise.

The night work will consist of torch work, cutting shears and the use of the crane to remove the sections of the press box down to the ground. The crane will be stationary, therefore no ‘beeping’ will be heard. During this operation temporary construction lighting will be utilized for safety. Temporary light standards will be positioned facing north and northeast back toward the stadium illuminated only areas necessary for work activities and therefore compliance within the City’s light spillage limits is expected. Work will occur Monday – Friday for the week of January 9th, 2012, the week of January 16th, 2012 and on January 23rd, 2012 and January 24th, 2012 for a total working duration of 12 days. All loud noise activities will only be performed during the day shifts (loud cutting and separation of materials).

All questions or concerns should be forwarded onto Leah Jason, Project Manager for Bernards/Barton Malow, the Project Manager at 562-244-3049, Margo Mavridis, the Renovation Project Director at 626-577-2005 or myself, at 626-577-3116. As indicated, a sound monitor will be on site in the event of a noise concern, so we are in a position to respond immediately.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Darryl Dunn, General Manager
