Tyron A.L. Hampton was born and raised in Pasadena by his parents, Denise and Tyrone Hampton. He attended Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) schools located in District 1 during his academic career: Cleveland Elementary, Washington Middle School and John Muir High School. While he was in high school, he supplemented his education with additional college courses at Pasadena City College. Upon graduating from high school in 2001, he began his college education at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona where he earned Bachelor degrees in Food Marketing and Agriculture Biology.
Tyron stems from a family of entrepreneurs and has continued along this path by participating in the family run construction business. Established in 1971, the family business has grown into a full service construction, maintenance and interior decorating company. Tyron has played a pivotal role in this company for the last decade, simultaneously managing up to six projects at a time. He excels at managing general construction projects for both residential and commercial clientele. His responsibilities include reading blueprints, design, scheduling projects, budgeting, purchasing and supervising up to 30+ employees and subcontractors. Every day he provides day-to-day decision-making, coordinating, reviewing and scheduling to effectively and efficiently meet the project requirements.
Tyron won an election to represent Northwest Pasadena on the PUSD Board of Directors in 2013. Leveraging the skills he acquired as a Pasadena small business owner; Tyron was intent on improving communication between school board members and families and on finding innovative solutions to overcome budget shortfalls. As a Board Member, Tyron championed the introduction of Wi-Fi into all PUSD schools, created a PUSD newsletter, implemented parent school site meetings and staff meetings, worked on the creation of STEAM magnet programs, implemented campus physical inspections for repairs, increased science and technology resources at Cleveland elementary, implemented a PCC Pathways program, brought college focused programs to the district, and supported various other initiatives that brought positive change to the PUSD.
In 2015, Tyron won an election to serve on the City Council representing Pasadena District 1. Tyron willingly accepts responsibility for ensuring equal access to opportunities for every family in his district. He feels passionately about ensuring the city is playing a role in public education and supporting economic growth in Northwest Pasadena.
Tyron is married to his high school sweetheart, Tara Gomez-Hampton, Ph.D., who is an alumnus of UCLA and the California Institute of Technology. She does quality/regulatory work and often teaches science courses. Tyron and Tara have a daughter, Peyton, and have a host of nieces and nephews. Outside of work, Tyron enjoys spending time with family and is an avid fitness enthusiast.
