THE FRAMEWORK OF THE GENERAL PLAN UPDATE
On October 1, 2012, staff began the process of presenting recommendations on the General Plan Land Use and Mobility Elements to the City Council and various other City Commissions. These recommendations consisted of changes to the General Plan's existing guiding principles, land use and mobility objectives, supporting policies, general plan diagram, and development levels (click here for a description and copy of each). The Historic Preservation Commission, the Transportation Advisory Commission, the General Plan Update Advisory Committee and the Planning Commission reviewed staff's recommendations provided feedback and proposed their own revisions to the various components of the plan. Below you will find a history of the meetings.
This review period gave Commission and Committee members the opportunity to carefully review staff's recommended changes to the General Plan. Public meetings fostered transparency and gave the public the opportunity to determine if their comments during the outreach process had been successfully represented in the revised principles, policies, and maps. The comments and concerns voiced and written during the public outreach process, along with the best practices in urban planning, combined to form the basis for staff's recommendations.
Staff's recommendations, which have been revised to include changes resulting from the Commission review process, were presented to the City Council in April of 2013. Click here to see an explanation of the City Council's approval.
